8 Things to Know if You’re Considering Adoption

12 / 12 / 1712 / 6 / 17

Adoption8 things to know if you’re considering adoption.

We cannot tell you how many people have said to us “I’d love to adopt, but I couldn’t”. The reasons they give vary from the emotional to the practical. The emotional ones include anticipated sadness around rejection from your child: “you’re not my real mother!” or a concern that you couldn’t truly love a child that isn’t biologically yours. The practical ranges from structural (for example, in Australia, the system is hard and slow, and if people are coming from years of infertility, they may already be too old to start), to the financial (we understand the cost of adoption in the US can get up to $40,000).

When the toddler decides to throw the dinner (that you lovingly made) on the floor and at the wall, you have absolutely had it. You count down the minutes until your husband returns home from work and you can retreat to the gym. You are signing off shortly. It’s his turn. Yippee!

Finding Me Time

10 / 5 / 179 / 25 / 17

finding me timeFinding me time as a parent is more important than many mums realise. After all, how are you meant to be a switched on parent 24/7?

It’s the same way they tell you on the plane to put on your oxygen mask first. You can’t help your children unless you make sure you are looked after too. That’s the way it works in our everyday lives too.

Nappy Bag For Mums

9 / 13 / 179 / 1 / 17

nappy-bagEditor Felicity Frankish reviews the perfect nappy bag for mums.

The hunt for the perfect ‘mum’ bag began for me the moment I found out I was pregnant with my daughter. I love to accessorise, and knew all the bags I had stocked up on over the years would need to take a backseat after bub was here. It was all about her and getting around with everything we needed – which was a lot! Really, they just don’t warn you enough about all the stuff babies come with and just how tricky it can be to get out the door each day. I found a nappy bag that I loved and it saw me through that first year with Cassie, before I realised it just wasn’t working anymore. That’s when I came across this gorgeous Bilum bag.

9 / 7 / 178 / 26 / 17

children-and-divorceTurned into weapons or often just overlooked, here is everything you need to know about children and divorce.

Too often parents complain that their ex-spouse is using the children as ‘weapons’ in divorce.  While a parent may think nothing of their choices or actions, the long-term ramifications of this can have life-long detrimental aftershocks for the child, the innocent party of divorce. There are too many ways in which parents can misuse their children and to the extreme, these tactics can be a form of child abuse. Rachael Scharrer, Founder of online resource, DivorceAnswered.com.au, shares a few common ways parents are either intentionally or unintentionally misuse children throughout the divorce process and how to turn it around:
