Can you tell us a little about you and your family?
Much to my surprise we’re a family of seven. My husband and I grew up in Tasmania. We now live in Canberra (for the second time) after a six year stint in Sydney. We have five children, three boys aged seven, five and three, and six-month-old twin girls. It’s a loud, crazy, busy household.

The moment itself was surreal. It was almost two years ago that I first laid eyes on you. Something I had been waiting for eagerly for a long time, but just couldn’t imagine. As hard as I tried, I couldn’t picture you. So many thoughts went through my head in the lead up to your birth: would you look like your dad or me? Would you have brown hair? Blonde? Blue eyes? What would your personality be like? Whose temperament would you have. Some of these were questions would take a while to answer, but in that moment when I held you on me for the first time, all the questions disappeared in a flash. You were mine.

Being a stay-at-home dad was never something that crossed my or my wife’s mind. It kind of just evolved from multiple different circumstances, the first of which was a huge change in career. I have always been driven by the prospect of the corporate ladder, but that meant giving up the one thing you can’t earn – and that was time. So after ten years working for the one business and gaining success there I decided to leave it behind and pursue something less time consuming.

I don’t quite know when my wife first mentioned Babywearing as an idea… she was pregnant and had picked up a $20 meitei canvas carrier from a local lady and I found her pregnant and carrying a teddy around the house in it. Then I remember when our son was only a few weeks old we headed to a park in the inner west of Sydney for a baby wearing meetup. Who knew that was a thing?!
