Getting Back Into Pregnancy Exercise

7 / 5 / 176 / 28 / 17

run-faster-gearEditor Flick Frankish shares how she has gone about getting back into pregnancy exercise.

When I first fell pregnant with Cassie, exercise was a given. I had just finished my ‘pre-wedding diet’ and wanted to make sure I stayed in shape for the nine months I was growing my little miracle. Luckily, I had some friends by my side who motivated me at the gym and adjusted the workouts accordingly so I could join in. By the end of the pregnancy I had signed up for prenatal Pilates and absolutely loved it. It was a chance to escape the busyness of life and enjoy some one-on-one time with my bump.

Nutrition During Pregnancy

4 / 13 / 174 / 4 / 17

nutrition-during-pregnancyPregnancy is an important and challenging time and growing a baby is no easy task. Here are 5 tips for nutrition during pregnancy.

  1. Drink up!
We’ve heard it all before. Everyone knows that drinking water and keeping hydrated is important. Water serves many different functions, and ensuring you are properly hydrated during pre-conception, pregnancy, labour, birth and postnatally, is extremely important. Your hydration will directly impact your fertility, energy levels, immune function and lactation. If plain water doesn’t do it for you, add chopped/sliced fruit, fresh herbs, vegetables (such as strawberry or cucumber), non-caffeinated herbal teas, nourishing liquids such as bone broths, or fermented drinks such as kombucha or kefir. Also highly recommended – add a pinch of sea salt to your glass or bottle. This will help your cells to take in the water.

working while pregnantWhen you find out you are expecting a lot of changes take place. Find out how you can lead a healthy lifestyle and continue working while pregnant.

While theoretically every woman knows beforehand that pregnancy will change her body, a lot of us feel ultimately unprepared when the changes finally take place. A lot might take you by surprise. While most women feel well enough to continue as before, they still need to make adjustments to their routine. It’s important to listen to your body’s new needs and demands, to accept its new limits and try to enjoy this wonderfully different state. Many women simply don’t have the option of taking an extended break from work during pregnancy, and others don’t want to either. There is no reason whatsoever why you shouldn’t be able to continue working well into the pregnancy – even up to your due date – if you take good care of yourself and respect your limits. Of course, each pregnancy is different, so find out what works for you and your baby. Here are some things that are sure to do you good and help you keep those energy levels high all the way to your due date.
