Make-your-home-safe-for-your-childrenHere are some great tips shared with The Baby Vine about how to keep your home safe for your children.

So you think you are ready for your child to start moving around the house? Everything is childproof, soft and safe. Are you sure? Childproofing a home might not be as easy as you think. Studies show that when first-time mums of kids aged 12 to 36 months were asked to point out potential hazards, they were able to identify only around 50%, which was quite scary.

Managing Your Toddler’s Behaviour At Childcare

11 / 9 / 1711 / 2 / 17

guardianHere are some great tips when it comes to managing your child’s behaviour at childcare.

My daughter, Cassie, has been a hitter since she was little. It started when she was about 12 months old and it continued and even got worse for a period in there. As parents, Chris and I tried everything in our power to make it stop, from punishing her, to distracting her and more. It was during this time that I learned just how important it was to work with her childcare and to make sure we were on the same page when it came to dealing with the problem. As soon as we managed this, we noticed an improvement straight away. NSW Curriculum Mentor Priscilla Carmichael for Guardian Early Learning Group shares some vital information on toddler behaviour and how they approach the topic in their centres.

Tips For Buying Shoes For Kids

11 / 6 / 1711 / 5 / 17

shoes-for-kidsTips for buying shoes for kids.

My husband and I both have rather unique feet – I suffer from Eczema and no big toenails following an accident, my husband has hammer toes – I imagine from having a massive growth spurt at some point and not being in the correct shoes. I feel the only thing I can pass onto our son Reuben to hopefully counterbalance him getting the same issues, is to be in seasonally appropriate shoes so his feet can breathe to help with any skin issues, and to make sure he is regularly properly fitted for new shoes to ensure his foot and toe bones have plenty of space to grow and develop the way the should. Shoes and Sox are amazing -Reuben has really ticklish feet and was very anti getting fitted or not keeping the shoes he walked in on his feet, but the staff at Eastgardens store had it covered with balloons, bubbles, stickers and a dab hand at measuring on the fly!

Learn how to exercise right for kids with chronic conditions.

There is a wealth of knowledge and resources to support and help manage the symptoms of the 11 million Australian adults who are living with at least one chronic disease, but what about children?

The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare reported that almost 300,000 Australian children had a disabling chronic illness. To highlight, about 23% of these had asthma, 15% emotional or behavioural problems, and 14% childhood cancer. These are just three of the many chronic conditions that unfortunately affect children.

Creating The Perfect Outdoor Space For Your Child

9 / 18 / 179 / 7 / 17

backyard-for-kids

Cassie has always been an outdoors kid. In truth, I have no idea where she gets it from. When my own mum regales me with tales from my childhood, they all seem to feature me sitting inside with my head buried in a book, while she tried to coax me to get outside in the fresh air with my brothers. It must be from her dad.

How To Get Your Child To Listen

9 / 14 / 179 / 1 / 17

how-to-get-your-child-to-listenWant to know how to get your child to listen to you? Here are some great tips.

It really is the holy grail of parenting, the one thing I didn’t prepare myself enough for before Cassie came: how to get your child to listen to you. I am going to have a little brag moment right now – I was the best child ever. I’m not lying to you or even exaggerating – my mum has told me over and over. She said I would just sit on her lap in silence and watch the world whenever she took me out. People were always amazed and used to ask Mum what her secret was. So, naturally, I was fooled into thinking that my little girl would be just like this. Oh how I was mistaken.
