Having welcomed her second little girl, Editor Felicity Frankish reflects on 7 things that are different second time around.
December Kids Books
Here are our top picks of December kids books.
Skip to the Loo by Sally Lloyd-Jones, illustrated by Antia Jeram
Walker Books
This whole business of potty training came around far too quickly for my liking, but before I knew it I had a kid in undies and this book was a great help. Cassie has always been a bit nervous about the potty, but what better way to introduce it than with a group of animals all sharing their love of it. From elephants in tutus to monsters and ghosts, this adorable board book will not only keep your little one entertained, but will have them ‘skipping to the loo’ in no time.
Date Night For Parents
New Years Resolutions – always a conundrum, and often only short lived. My fitness binges are lucky to make it to February; every year I promise that I will spend 10 minutes a day cleaning a part of my house, and if it lasts 2 weeks I consider it a successful resolution!
5 Reasons You Need A Dyson This Christmas
Between nappy changes, night time wake ups and food smooshed into every surface, my life has certainly changed over the past two years after welcoming my two little girls into the world. Cassie is just two years old and is a firecracker who just adores her food, while Vivi is three months old and has settled into our family effortlessly. While both girls are fairly easy on a day-to-day basis, my time has certainly become very stretched between the two of them, and one of the main things I struggle to keep up with is the housework. After all, if I miraculously manage to get them both to nap at the same time, the last thing I want to do is vacuum the house. That is my time to just sit on the couch and take some time out before the chaos of the day continues.
Comfortable Pram Liner
Are you after a comfortable pram liner that will protect both the pram and your bub? Check out this gorgeous range.
I remember shopping for Cassie’s pram like it was yesterday. It was probably my favourite big-ticket item, so I made sure a lot of time and thought went into the decision. I knew I wanted one that turned into a double as we were planning our kids close together. I didn’t want a side by side, it needed to be easy to steer, and it had to look good as well. In the end, we settled with the Steelcraft Strider Compact in Black, figuring the colour would hide all the inevitable mess that comes with children – boy were we wrong! Fast forward two years and I have fallen in love with pram liners. Not only do they look pretty, but they keep the mess contained and you can simply throw them in the wash after use. Easy! And the ones over at Violet and Lily are just divine.
Developing A Bedtime Routine
Here are some great tips on developing a bedtime routine.
Sleep – is there anything better than when your kids start sleeping through the night? With my girls, I learned quickly on that a bedtime routine was important. This way they knew what to expect each night when it came to bedtime and began to read the sleep cues at the end of the day. Of course, things don’t always go to plan but doesn’t stop us from trying.
